National Day of Prayer, 2010
For Such a Time as This
May 6th, 2010 marked a special day for the Outreach and Missions Committee of Christ Church Anglican as we stepped into the gap and became the official coordinators for the 59th Annual Day of Prayer in East Haven, CT. The entire church community supported the effort.
Understanding the serious times we are in and need for unity and prayer, the committee was able to gather together both town officials and clergy members within the locale. There was a heartening response as honored guests and participants gathered on the green that evening. The East Haven Fire Department’s Color Guard raised the colors as the wind gusts showed them off! Our own Nile Heermans was a proud representative for The American Legion Post 89 and read the names of the fallen servicemen of CT. in the last year. A moment of silence followed.
Other dignitaries included: The Honorable April Capone-Almon, Mayor, Gaetano Nappi, Acting Police Chief, Anthony Serio, Superintendent of Schools and Anthony Moscato, Fire Marshall.
Clergy and representatives from Christ Church Anglican, Christ & the Epiphany Church, The Old Stone Church, Our Lady of Pompeii Church and St. Clare Roman Catholic Church read prayers covering: The Country, The President, Local Government, National Security, Family, Children, Education and Business.
We concluded with the Prayer of St. Francis and the rich voice of Fire Marshall Anthony Moscato singing, God Bless America.
We thank God for the freedom of prayer in America. We humbly ask for His continued guidance and blessing.
