In March, 2010 Vickie Manfredi and Margaret Morse, members of Christ Church Anglican in East Haven, visited Father Martins Atanda, known as Apostle Martins of Sokoto, Nigeria, Africa. They traveled with him, his wife, Shade and several missioners in training to four villages to participate in the Leadership Training Conference held in each village. Christ Church Anglican had given monies to help build a sewing center for Zion World Prayer Mission in Kwangirawa, Niger State, Nigeria. Part of the monies was used to facilitate the building of a literacy center. During their time traveling/teaching with Apostle Martins and his wife Shade, Vickie and Margaret were given the privilege of dedicating the two centers.
Vickie and Margaret are hoping to raise monies for a well in one of the villages. The cost is $2,500.00. They have already raised $1,000.00.
The Emergency Men’s Shelter in New Haven is a program which provides a bed, a shower and a meal for approximately 75-100 men in need each evening. The men are also given counseling to mainstream them back into society. Volunteer groups in the area prepare and serve dinner to these men. With the guidance of The Lord, and the gracious hearts of our parishioners, our church has joined the list of volunteers. We served our first meal on June 28th. The recipients of our food are so appreciative; complimenting the cooks, thanking the servers, and praising God for this gift of food. We will continue to serve this meal on the last Sunday of each month for as long as we are able.
